Protecting Your Child's Vision
Good vision is essential for learning, development, and overall well-being. At Invision Eye Clinic, we make eye exams fun and comfortable for children of all ages, using specialized techniques and equipment designed for young patients.
Why Children's Eye Exams Are Important
Up to 80% of a child’s learning is visual, and children often aren’t able to self identify visual problems. Children will assume that their vision is normal and many early and treatable conditions can be missed. Undetected vision issues can affect:
- Reading and learning ability
- Hand-eye coordination
- Sports performance
- Social development
A Comprehensive Paediatric Eye Exam Includes:
- Visual acuity at various distances: We can use different testing methods that don’t always require a child to know their alphabet
- Eye alignment and coordination: To help check for issues such as amblyopia and/or strabismus (lazy eye)
- Refraction (if needed): To assess which prescription for glasses, if any, is needed to improve vision
- Focusing ability
- Colour vision
- Depth perception
- Eye health examination: Through both manual visual inspection and digital retinal imaging, as well as an OCT image, we ensure a thorough investigation of your kid’s ocular health
Recommended Schedule
- First Eye Exam: At 6-12 months old
- Second Eye Exam: At 3 years old
- Third Eye Exam: At 5 years old and then once EVERY YEAR
OHIP Coverage
The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) provides coverage for a YEARLY eye exam for all individuals with a valid Ontario health card under the age of 20. This coverage does not include any retinal imaging or OCT scans.
